Conference 2010
Jubilee
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
from Tuesday 4th May to Thursday 6th May 2010
(lunchtime to lunchtime)
at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbys.
This was a special conference. It was an occasion to celebrate and rededicate our preaching. It was held on the eve of the General Election - which made the subject matter especially appropriate!
Delegates at the conference had the chance to hear.
-
Fran Unsworth and Julia Bicknell from the BBC, sharing their experience of how the news is put together
-
David Wilkinson and Kate Bruce from St. John's Durham, answering questions like "Why preach on the news?" and "How can I do so imaginatively?"
-
Jolyon Mitchell, from Edinburgh University, on how to 'read' the news theologically
-
and Andrew Graystone from the Church and Media Network, opening up the possibilities of the digital age (which some people found "scary"!).
Then there was some pre-election 'preaching on the news' from Paul Johns; and a final sermon from Leslie Griffiths to bless The College of Preachers and send us on our way into the next fifty years.
